The Story Behind T.I.O Essence

Essence did not begin with a sketch. It began with a length of blush silk crepe that had been sitting in the studio for almost a year, too beautiful to cut into anything ordinary.

One afternoon we pinned it to the stand and simply let it fall. What it wanted to do was move. Everything that followed — the pleated bodices, the released waists, the circle skirts that open like a held breath — came from that first afternoon of not forcing anything.

Femininity is often designed as decoration. We wanted to design it as motion instead. There is almost no hardware in this collection: no heavy boning, no visible closures, nothing that fights the body. The shape lives in the cut, which is by far the harder way to make a dress.

The palette is deliberately quiet — blush, shell, bone, the faintest champagne — so that the eye follows the movement rather than the colour. When our client walks into a room in Essence, we want the room to notice the way she moves before it notices what she is wearing.

Essence is available as ready-to-wear in standard sizing, and in bespoke for clients who want the same silhouettes cut to their own measurements.
