Caring for your T.I.O
These pieces are made by hand to last decades. Treated well, they will outlive the occasion you bought them for.
By fabric
Silk & satin
- —Dry clean only — water marks silk permanently.
- —Press on the reverse at low heat with a pressing cloth.
- —Never spray perfume or deodorant directly onto the fabric.
Velvet
- —Dry clean; never iron the pile — steam vertically at a distance instead.
- —Hang on a padded hanger, never folded, to avoid crush marks.
- —Brush gently with a soft velvet brush in the direction of the pile.
Hand-beaded & embellished
- —Specialist dry clean only, and always tell the cleaner the piece is hand-beaded.
- —Store flat in tissue, never on a hanger — weight pulls the beading.
- —Loose beads are normal after wear; return the piece to us for repair.
Denim
- —Wash inside out, cold, on a gentle cycle, with like colours only.
- —Wash rarely — air the piece between wears to keep the indigo.
- —Line dry away from direct sun; never tumble dry.
Lace & organza
- —Dry clean, or hand rinse cold with a pH-neutral detergent if the label allows.
- —Do not wring — press between towels and dry flat.
- —Steam only; a hot iron will melt fine synthetics.
Cotton, linen & brocade
- —Cold gentle machine wash for cotton and linen; dry clean brocade.
- —Iron linen slightly damp for a crisp finish.
- —Reshape while damp to preserve the cut.
General care
Storage
Store in a cool, dry wardrobe in a breathable cotton garment bag — never plastic, which traps moisture. Heavy gowns and beaded pieces should lie flat in tissue.
Travel
Fold along existing seams with tissue between layers. On arrival, hang in a steamy bathroom for twenty minutes rather than ironing.
Stains
Blot, never rub, and never use water on silk or velvet. Take the piece to a specialist cleaner as soon as possible and tell them what caused the stain.
Repairs
We repair every piece we make. Send us a photograph on WhatsApp and we will advise; minor repairs within the first year are complimentary.
